After a long day of competition at Proviso West High School, the Varsity squad came away with a 55-point, third place tie with York at the 50th Annual Proviso West Invitational. The Frosh / Soph crew were 9th overall with 24.50 points.
The day was undoubtedly highlighted by the performances of Ty Moss in the 600 Meter Dash, and come-from-behind victory in the 4 x 400. Moss got out to a tremendous start and never looked back. His time of 1:22.76 was nearly 2 seconds faster than the old record held by alum Jake Bender. The 4 x 400 relay team concluded the day’s events around 5:00 pm with a stunning victory, breaking the 1973 Proviso West meet record with an astounding time 3:25.09, which currently ranks as the second fastest in the state. Kudos to Jacob Sampson, Kyle Bender, Zac Espinosa, and Moss who upended powerhouse Cahokia by over 3 seconds. Michael Widmann also needs to commended for his tough race in the 3200 Meter Run. He raced against York’s Matt Plowman and Downers Grove North’s Ryan Clevenger and never let them pull away from him. Widmann’s final time was a season best 9:41.92. Tom Cwiok additionally took away a 3rd place finish in the Shot Put with a near-State qualifying toss of 51′ 2″. Over on the Frosh / Soph side, the distance squad earned some much-needed points as Danny Winek secured 3rd place in the 1600 with a time of 4:46.24. Jake McEneaney ran away with the victory in the 3200, outpacing his competitors at 9:54.25. Matt Milostan was not too far behind in 5th place for 10:19.81. The entire squad will next see action on Thursday, March 4, at Plainfield East High School, as we face off against St. Rita, Metea Valley, and, of course, Plainfield East. Hope to see you there!
